January 2025, Telangana’s Transport and BC Welfare Minister, Ponnam Prabhakar, carried out a surprise inspection at the Telangana Minorities Residential Girls’ School in Husnabad. During his visit, he dined with the students and inquired about the quality of food and recent improvements in diet provisions. The students expressed their satisfaction with the enhanced food quality and thanked the government for increasing the diet charges. They also requested the Minister to consider upgrading the school from a Plus 2 institution to a Degree College. In response, Minister Prabhakar immediately reached out to the Director of Minorities Welfare, Tasfeer Iqbal, and Special Secretary to the Government, Shanaz Khasim, to discuss the potential for such an upgrade.
The Minister also congratulated students who had excelled in recent CM Cup sports competitions and encouraged them to maintain a balance between academics and extracurricular activities, including sports and innovative projects. He emphasized the government’s plans to introduce programs such as NCC, NSS, and the Red Cross across all educational institutions to foster social responsibility among students. Local officials, including Siddipet Grandhalaya Samstha Chairman Lingamurthy and Single Window Chairman Shivaiah, accompanied the Minister during the visit.
This visit is part of a larger initiative by the Telangana government to improve the quality of education and living conditions in residential schools across the state. In December 2024, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, along with other ministers and officials, conducted surprise visits to various gurukuls and residential hostels, even dining with students to assess the conditions first-hand. These ongoing efforts highlight the government’s commitment to enhancing student welfare and ensuring the effective implementation of educational and welfare programs in Telangana.
